Community Options for Families and Youth (COFY) is a multi-disciplinary provider of mental health services. We are a California Nonpublic Agency (NPA) and a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. Our mission is to work with youth whose high-intensity behaviors place them at risk of hospitalization or residential treatment. Our mental health clinicians work collaboratively with caregivers, educators and social service professionals to help exasperated families restore empathic relationships and maintain placement for their children. To foster resiliency and skill-building in our clients, we use: psychotherapy, behavioral coaching, family counseling, parent education, and trauma-focused treatment to restore empathic relationships and foster positive relationships and communication in whatever setting our clients live, work, and learn.

Behavioral Therapy

Therapeutic Behavior Services (TBS) is intended for youth whose behaviors place them at risk of hospitalization or placement in restrictive treatment programs. Using evidence-based methodologies, TBS therapists help their clients to replace and reduce problem behaviors. The treatment is short-term, intensive and takes place in home, school and/or community settings. Emphasis is placed on teaching caregivers to sustain behavioral change in their children even after TBS treatment is over.

Educational Mental Health Services

COFY offers Mental Health Services for educational organizations to help them effectively and efficiently use their resources to support their special-needs students.

Trauma Therapy

The Center for Trauma Processing (CTP) offers therapy for children who have experienced trauma as victims or witnesses of crime. Our clinicians use research-supported methods such as Play Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in conjunction with family counseling in order to nurture resilience in their clients. As with other programs at COFY, emphasis is placed on helping youth by strengthening caregivers in their roles as nurturers and protectors.

Parent Education

Programs such as The Incredible Years © and Parent Project © have proven to be effective in helping parents develop communication and parenting skills for the challenging work of raising children. COFY offers these programs to Churches, schools and other groups that are interested in helping families in this area. Some programs can be provided in either English and Spanish.

COFY's vision is to provide individualized services for children and families in the San Francisco Bay Area and to keep children and youth in their own communities, with their own families or caregivers. Our goal is to maintain placement in the least restrictive setting, and to restore empathic relationships and foster positive relationships and communication in whatever setting our clients live, work, and learn.

COFY's core values are collaboration, connection and mutual support. These extend to all parties involved in our cases, including clients, family members, clinicians, schools, and other agencies.
